One of the biggest problems with paediatric cancer in Pakistan is that children either go undetected, or reach hospitals too late for treatment.
A lot of children suffering are from out of Karachi. Families come from interior Sindh, Baluchistan, KPK and Punjab. They have nowhere to stay and have to leave their jobs back home, losing their only source of income. Hence, they abandon treatment partway.
Access to nutritious food is a problem for most families since they come from out of town. These children end up subsisting on junk food or food with preservatives since these families don't have kitchens to cook in.
Since poverty is so rampant in Pakistan, the focus has always been to provide medication and treatment to the children, Unfortunately, education, counselling, and emotional support, by virtue of necessity, are quite low on the list of priorities.
